After the excitement of receiving my iPhone package yesterday (which, by the way, is the coolest thing in the entire universe – not that that precluded me from almost throwing it against the wall when I was trying to work out how to use the damn thing!), today I picked up the above book, which was delivered to my parent’s house. It was sent to me (for free! Thank you!) by the Resource Centre for Cyberculture Studies, to write a review for their website. I will post a link when it’s been published
I’m excited – this will be my first ‘publication’ and therefore an awesome opportunity to have been given (thank you again!) – and also nervous, as it’s the first seriously academicy thing I’ve done (and posted about on my blog – as worlds collide, this is the part where I start hoping that my naughty words don’t get me in trouble with others in the cyberculture studies field in terms of networking and future employment), asides from my PhD work to this date, of course.
On that note, I might actually get around to updating the ‘research’ page at the top of the blog some time soon.
On the topic of this book, I can’t WAIT to get around to reading it. I absolutely loved the book Uses of Blogs, which Axel Bruns edited (along with Joanne Jacobs) – it’s probably the most interesting and useful book that I have read this year (I actually emailed both Axel and Joanne to tell them how much I liked it! How much of a stalker nerd am I?), so I’m excited to read some of Axel’s own work.
In other news, today I had my last day of work for the year – yay! Ignoring the fact, of course, that I actually resigned two months ago (I’ve since signed a further three month contract… hey, the money is good, and it’s only one morning a week, and I didn’t apply for teaching for 2009 so I need the dollars), it feels pretty awesome to know that I don’t have to wake up unless I want to for another 3 weeks (asides from that whole half marathon training thing, which means I need to wake up at 6am at least three times a week… and the fact that I prefer to wake up early to study!). I think uni also finishes for the year this week, though I might carry on for a few days next week, unless Rhys gets the time off (Mon-Wed) that he’s asked for leading up to Christmas. Hopefully he gets the time off, though – we were talking this morning about how we’re really noticing the difference, only seeing each other 3-4 days a week instead of the usual 7. Meh
