Only about a thousand years behind the rest of the world on that one, Australia! But at least K Rudd has finally gone ahead and committed to something. Private investment has been capped at 49%; this will primarily be a federal government initiative. I’m not sure whether privately-run development would be the better option, as to be honest, I’ve not been following the ins-and-out. I’m just happy to hear that finally we will have a broadband system that rivals those of countries overseas, rather than the pithy, limited, expensive broadband service that we now put up with.
K Rudd said it well — Internet connectivity is the way of the future, just as railroads and telephone lines were once responsible for revolutionising communications. It will be exciting and interesting to follow the development of the service over coming years.
