Hola!
Well, the tour has come to an end and our little group of eight have gone their separate ways — three members to the jungle, three members flying out to Lima (with two of those heading home via Santiago, where we will catch up again for dinner, and the other to Buenos Aires — and eventually on to the same flight as us home), and Rhys and I hanging out in La Paz for one more night before we fly to Santiago tomorrow. We decided to splash out and stay at the Radisson tonight — our other hotel was and absolute HOLE, and the R-dog only set us back US$139 (only! Hah!). But you know what? Best decision ever. Free Internet, a POOL (I have been gagging for a swim for the past four weeks!), SUPER CHEAP room service (think a burger and fries for $7), and restaurants & bars abound. Oh, and did I mention the view from our room? Over the crazy house-littered cliffs of La Paz, we can see the most amazing snow-capped mountain.
I´m just gonna put it out there… I love Bolivia. I mean sure, my bag got slashed some time in the past 24 hours — no kidding!! Luckily nothing was stolen — but I love this place. It´s super cheap, a lot of fun (but what place isn´t fun when cocktails are the equivalent of AU$3??), and reminds me a lot of Madrid. Yesterday, we did the shonkiest bus-top city tour that I´ve ever encountered – and trust me, I´ve done a few – and then followed it up with a meal for eight people at La Paz´s best restaurant, totalling the princely sum of AU$200 — that´s for entrees and mains for all, plus a round of cocktails and two bottles of South American wine. This place is awesome.
Rhys and I are off to explore the hotel and have a drink now, so time for me to sign out. This time next week I´ll be in my little old home in Perth, stressing out about work and uni and washing and looking for a new place to live… but for now I´m just going to enjoy myself. Stay cool amigos.
